I'm a retired software developer. As an autistic person and the mother of an autistic son, I believe in the power of passion to guide learning. Humans are born curious, and it is our curiosity that fuels our acquisition of functional knowledge about the world. I strive to identify what my son is interested in at any time and explore all aspects of his interest with him. I also model learning by going really deep into topics that interest me and conducting experiments to discover truths about my world. 

I joined the Master's in Special Education Program at KU with a focus on autism spectrum disorders to learn how our education system views autism and to learn how children like my son experience the instructional and social environment in traditional schools.
